thursday morning
I turned on CNN this morning about 6am, Kansas time, to see that someone has done something in London, bombs or devices found on the subways and buses, apparently. Listening to some jarhead in the US Government talking about London law enforcement "extracting casualties".
Let me repeat that: Extracting Casualties.
Oh god, this is the world we live in. These are, were, people going to work. Something I didn't even have to do today. They're on their way to work. Those aren't casualties, those are people. Some got up late, maybe? Ran out the door thinking to grab coffee at the office? Didn't wake their signifigant others, let the spouse sleep late instead of waking them to say goodbye?
You extract teeth. You extract vanilla from beans.
Those were people.
That's all.

Thank you. A really good and valid point. Unfortunately the news media has a knack for picking names to describe atrocities that border on the absurd.
and thank you for seeing it for what it is. these last few military skirmishes of ours, and i'm reaching back to about '88 here, they've been televised like the world's bleakest game show. it hurts a little and yet it's infuriating.
we have all these lovely terms for things that disguise what they are, f'rinstance, "intelligent design" being what the fundies in kansas call the movement to rid us of actual science. the "defense of marriage act" being a way to legalize taking civil rights from citizens, or if you prefer, giving special rights to the heterosexuals. my favorite though, is the "pro life" movement, which is a pleasant way to say anti-choice.
i'll stop spitting bile now.
I wouldnt call it bile. More like truth. I have the same feeling as the post actually. Why cant these bastards face the force for which they want changed instead of people picking their nose or jamming to headphones early in the morning.
